🌸 Vintage Floral Buffet Makeover (DIY Tutorial)
Share
If you love that soft, romantic, cottage-inspired look, this makeover is for you. Today I’m sharing how I transformed this vintage buffet into a dreamy statement piece using layered paint, delicate distressing, and a beautiful floral transfer.
✨ The Vision
I wanted something light, airy, and a little bit shabby-chic—with just enough age showing through to give it character. The combination of soft aqua tones and vintage florals creates that perfect balance between elegance and rustic charm.
🎨 Paint Colors & Products Used
- Cottage Color Ameraucana Paint
- Sweet Pickins Milk Paint in Flour Sack
- Iron Orchid Designs “Joie Des Roses” Transfer
-
DIY Clear Wax
🪑 Step-by-Step Process
1. Prep Your Piece
Start by cleaning your furniture really well. Remove any hardware and lightly sand if needed. This helps the paint adhere better.
2. Apply Base Coat - Sweet Pickins Milk Paint in Flour Sack over entire piece. Add extra bond if your piece is shiny
3. Using Cottage Color Ameracauna Paint, apply 1–2 coats across the body but leave the legs in just milk paint.
4. Distressing Details
Focus on natural wear areas:
- Edges
- Corners
- Raised details
- Legs and feet
This step gives your piece that authentic vintage feel.
5. Apply the Transfer
Now for the magic ✨
Carefully apply the Iron Orchid Designs Joie Des Roses Transfer to the drawer fronts or cabinet doors. Rub it on slowly and evenly, peeling back as you go.
This floral design instantly elevates the piece into something truly special.
6. Seal It All In
Seal the entire piece with DIY clear Wax
🧺 Styling Tips
To complete the look, style your piece with:
- Wooden candlesticks (like shown)
- Neutral or vintage-inspired decor
- Soft linens or greenery
This keeps everything cohesive and lets the florals shine.
